ECOTheatre is for Hallie Osceola. And the Red List, all the endangered species in the world, including us.

Where is Bartram?
This 10-minute, 4-character play is suitable for kids and adults. It was inspired by recent events in Miami-Dade County Florida. Endangered pine rockland, once owned by the Federal government, was given to the University of Miami many years ago. It is home to numerous endangered species ranging from butterflies (the Bartram Hairstreak, star of the play) to bats (the Florida Bonneted Bat, a character in the play). The habitat includes equally endangered plants. The land was sold by the university for $22 million to a developer who wants to bring a Walmart, restaurants, strip stores, and residential construction to this primeval piece of property.  In the play, a meeting is hastily organized by a couple of butterflies and a bat in the forest when Jaws (an excavator) shows up ready to eat them and everything in its path. Instead of running, Bartram saves the day by facing down Jaws and disabling it. At least for a moment.  At the end of the play there is a call-to-action for the audience to do all it can to stop the development that includes starting an email campaign addressed to the Miami-Dade County Mayor.

The play is free and can be downloaded by clicking the link below. If read on a computer, it links to a rare recording of the Florida Bonneted Bat echolocating (in case your bat character is a Method actor and really wants to get into the part. :)

This call-to-action video was made to use at the end of the play. It contains images of the endangered pine rockland forest and the endangered species in the play.  It too is available for a free download.
