EEL Application for former Coast Guard Lands in the Richmond Pine Rocklands Filed today

Breaking News:
Our Coalition of South Florida Environmental Groups Including Tropical Audubon Society, Sierra Club Miami Group and Miami Pine Rocklands Coalition formally filed to place some 40 acres of Globally Imperiled Richmond Pine Rocklands into a Land Trust known as the Miami Dade EEL program.

The filing is aimed at Preserving and Restoring Environmentally Endangered Lands there in the face of some $1-Billion Dollars in proposed development. The land is currently owned by Miami Dade and includes both Listed and Draft/ Proposed Endangered Species Habitat. Much of it was just intentionally allowed to be used as a heavy equipment storage lot, construction debris dump site and fill-storage yard. Todays filing is the first step towards possibly protecting the area from Future Development including the "Miami Wilds" Proposed Theme Park there. The application was filed this afternoon by MPRC Member Ross Hancock who also personally signed the application.

Details to follow...including what we can do to track it and let our local lawmakers it's what taxpayers want. Expect vigorous opposition from developers/promoters/supporters who earlier tried unsuccessfully having the entire Richmond Pine Rocklands declared a "Blighted Slum”.
